Jess Mannhaupt

Hello, I'm Jess Mannhaupt! My passion for the publishing industry started early on as I spent my high school years as a Library Page in Farmingdale Public Library’s children’s section. Here, I got to witness the way children’s book publishing and book sales interact with libraries.

In the summer of 2021, I was the Social Media Marketing Intern at The Gryphon Press, an independent children’s book publisher in Minneapolis. I worked with the Co-Publisher, Dana Buchwald, to create the company’s first-ever internship program while also increasing Gryphon’s social media presence substantially.

During my time at Hofstra’s bookstore, I became more involved in the world of sales as I became the top 16th salesperson for Bartleby in Barnes and Noble. In my current role as a Bookseller at Burton’s Bookstore, I have furthered my experience with book publishing. At Burton’s, I work diligently with my team to foster a comforting environment for book lovers on the North Fork of Long Island.

I am the Publicity Assistant and Bookseller at Theodore's Books, an independent bookstore in Oyster Bay, New York and owned by former Congressman Steve Israel. Here, I curate captivating events and effectively promote books. I have been learning the expertise of crafting press releases, enhancing customer experiences, and expanding social media presence.

In the summer of 2023, I was a Volunteer Nonfiction Reader at the West Trade Review, a literary magazine in Charlotte, North Carolina, where I worked with like-minded individuals to review and assess submitted nonfiction manuscripts for potential publication.

I graduated from Hofstra University in December, 2022, with a Bachelor’s degree in Publishing Studies, with minors in Fine Arts and Religion Studies. I hope to flourish with my passion for books as I embark on making new connections within the industry!
